Bruce Miller
Public DefenderBruce Miller is serving his fourth term as the elected Public Defender for the First Judicial Circuit. A native of Indiana, Bruce earned his undergraduate degree from Purdue University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Dakota. He firmly believes that no section of the Constitution should be ranked higher or given more importance than any other. That is why the Office of the Public Defender is so important in protecting the Constitutional rights of all citizens.
Nick Thomas
Chief Assistant Public DefenderNick Thomas has been an Assistant Public Defender for 20 years. He has served as a division attorney, County Supervisor and is currently the Chief Assistant Public Defender for the Circuit. His work has included handling every kind of case from misdemeanor to felony, including death penalty. He has mentored dozens of attorneys, including instructing attorneys from around the state at the Florida Public Defender Association's PD College, and has presented at Continuing Legal Education Conferences. Beyond supervision, Nick is involved with PD1 administration, budget and works with other stakeholder agencies.
